Little escapes from routine life is a must for my family. In fact, my kids from a very young have adapted themselves well to our frequent travels. All in all, trips (small or big) gives us kick & offers the much required relief our tired souls need from Day In & Day Out of Stress.
One such escape happened over the Good Friday weekend. It was not at all a planned one. In fact, If I can be honest, it was the last minute booking wala weekend.
So, with limited Hotels left to book ( that’s always the
case if you are the last minute planner), we booked ourselves a room in The Oberoi Cecil, Shimla. I really tried hard to get reservations to The Oberoi Wildflower but it was all SOLD OUT (bummer).
Anyhow, we got ourselves booked, did a quick packing & off we left on Thursday evening. Thursday evening because we wanted to avoid the traffic rush on roads. So, our first stop was at “Murthal” for the infamous parathas & later stopped at one of the Treebo Property near Mohali, Punjab for the overnight stay. The hotel was very average. In fact, the food did mess with my stomach & I experienced the after effect the very next day with indigestion & fever.:(
So long story short, after the night halt, we were back on the highway early morning & it took was 3 to 3.5 hours to reach the booked hotel. I must say that we were quite proud of ourselves for leaving the traffic behind.
The Oberoi Cecil is a beautiful property. The rooms are wow. In fact, the washrooms are beautiful too. In fact, 5 points to them for the service, the personal connect, the extra mile they go to make sure their guest enjoys every bit of the stay is quite appreciated.
One of the incident that I would like to mention here was: I was suffering with fever & while I always carry OTC medication for kids, I wasn’t carrying any for us. So, I called the reception & inquired if they have Crocin. After close to 10 min, the hotel ensured that I get the entire strip & they didn’t even charge us for the same. I mean How many hotels do it?? Not many for sure.
So, On Friday we enjoyed every bit of indoor pool, games room, room services & restaurant at The Oberoi’s while recovering myself.
On Saturday morning, it was time to say Good Bye to this lovely property & experience Shimla by staying a little closer. So, our next hotel on the list was – Hotel Combermere.
The positive points for this hotel is that its right ON the Mall road. Right next to the Tourist lift so there is no stress of driving or walking from the hotel to the Mall road. Also, this gives a freedom to explore the Mall road without being time bounded. On more positive point was that they did pack us a very Healthy & Nice Breakfast the next morning as we were checking out early.
So, Saturday was dedicated to frequent trips to the Mall road with lots of food, music, horse riding, soaking in every bit of cold weather.
